1 killed, 6 injured in Israeli airstrikes on S. Lebanon

BEIRUT, Sept. 1 (Xinhua) — A Hezbollah member was killed and six people were injured on Sunday in Israeli airstrikes on border villages in southern Lebanon, according to the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health.
An Israeli airstrike on the village of Bayt Lif killed one Hezbollah fighter and injured two others, including a woman who sustained serious injuries, according to a statement released by the ministry’s Public Health Emergency Operations Center.
In a separate statement, the ministry reported that an Israeli airstrike on the village of Aita al-Shaab injured four people.
Lebanese military sources told Xinhua that Israeli drones and warplanes carried out 13 airstrikes on seven towns and villages in the border area of southern Lebanon on Sunday.
The sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity, revealed that an Israeli surface-to-surface missile targeted a house in the southeastern town of Shebaa, destroying the building. They reported no injuries from that attack.
The sources also said that a Lebanese army vehicle came under gunfire from the Israeli Zar’it site while it was moving along the southern border to deliver supplies to army centers, though no further details were provided.
Meanwhile, Hezbollah announced in separate statements that it had launched rocket attacks on Israeli soldiers near the Marj site and targeted espionage equipment at the Ruwaisat al-Alam site in the occupied Lebanese Kfarchouba hills.
Tensions along the Lebanon-Israel border escalated on Oct. 8, 2023, following a barrage of rockets launched by the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah toward Israel in solidarity with Hamas’ attack on Israel the day before. Israel then retaliated by firing heavy artillery toward southeastern Lebanon. ■
